Thunderstorm over Eastleigh.
There was a massive thunderstorm over Eastleigh on the south coast of England today, it lasted for over 30 minutes, that is quite a considerable amount of time for a thunderstorm over this area, normally we might just get 1 or 2 rumbles but this was impressive! the frequency of lightning was quite high, about once every 50 seconds there was a smaller storm an hour earlier further south, i only saw 1 bolt of lightning. from that one. this storm was mostly cloud to cloud lightning but there was a few cloud to ground strikes.

Glider Racing into Thunderstorm
31 minutes of crazy cockpit footage of Day 1 in the 15-meter Gliding Nationals for 2011 out of Logan, Utah. The first turn point took us right into a huge thunderstorm. A few smart pilots flew to the east of the storm and touched the turn cylinder. The rest of us did not see that option and flew right into the belly of the beast. Well more than half of the gliders got caught in the storm and landed out. This video shows pilot Bruno Vassel IV - B4 flying a highly modified ASW20B into a small gap in the rain trying to touch the turn cylinder and get out. Shows dozen of lightning strikes WAY too close, really cool looking rain, massive sink trying to get out, getting very low over the mountains while still in the storm in heavy storm front turbulence and rain, radio chatter of other gliders landing out at both airports and in fields in the middle of the storm, a lightning strike right next to the glider and when all hope was almost lost hitting an 11+ knot thermal (1100 feet per minute lift) that took the glider back up to cloud base and saved the day. Yes, a lot of people are going to criticize the decision to even fly into this storm. You are probably right. I wanted to share this because it shows how flying into a "gap" in a thunderstorm might look not all that bad but the storm can quickly close in on you and things go from bad to worse much quicker than you would like. Severe Thunderstorm | Coastal Lightning- Belmar, NJ July 29th, 2011
One of the rare times I decided to actually try and chase in the NYC/NJ Metro area. Usually I refrain from this due to horrible traffic conditions, and ridiculous tolls. I decided to brave both on this day and was glad I did! I targeted Belmar, NJ right on the Jersey shore due to the fact the forecast models had a ton of instability down that way. The better wind shear, and coinciding tornado threat was further north in the lower Hudson Valley of NY, but the better instability was further south. I split the difference and chose a half way point of sorts. Storms started firing west of me around 5pm and by 7pm we had a raging squall line approaching the Jersey shore. I shot time-lapse as the storms passed overhead and off shore and was also filming with my secondary camera through it all as well. This video is a mix of both the time-lapse footage I shot, and footage shot with my secondary camera. All in all a great local chase day! And, it was my girlfriend Cecelia's first storm chase! A group of weather enthusiasts from the UK (including self) went on a self-catered stormchase around the midwest just after the strong outbreak of late April 2011. Using only SPC guidance and the internet we found this lonely developing Supercell in NE Texas near Longview with dangerous positive-flash lightning and a mesocyclone. Temperature in the warm plume was around 28-30C with around 20C dewpoints, with between 1500 and 2500 Joules of CAPE. Edited with Cyberlink Powerdirector 9.

I shot this with my HD camcorder June 10th, 2007 at 1AM. The video is mostly looking Northeast at the radio towers West of Maize. The real cool lightening starts at 3:13 into the video. The first few minutes has great thunder claps though. Make sure you crank up your speakers! Of course the HD content looks a lot better...

Two minutes of rare thunderstorm over the San Francisco Bay Area peninsula. I decided to wait until the lightning moved further away before going outside to check out the storm. I only see these types of storms move through my area once every couple of years so I decided to capture some footage while this storm was winding down. This is the tail end of the same storm that caused a flight from SFO to turn around and land because it took a direct lightning strike just after takeoff for London. If you're looking for two minutes of ambient light rain and a couple of strong thunderclaps then look no further.

Probably longer than anyone cares about, but I do love thunderstorms. This whole thing covers about an hour on the afternoon of June 12, 2011. In it we see the wind and lightning and rain, plus the power going out. We also hear the thunder and some pretty serious Southern accents -- one of which is mine, which seems to come out a bit more when I'm down here.

March went out like a Lion in North Alabama. This was a nickle to quarter-sized (at the max) severe thunderstorm in NW Morgan County, Alabama, just south of the Tennessee River. This storm later produced golf ball to baseball sized hail and damaging winds in Lawrence County Alabama. The Speake community experienced the wind damage. The hail lasted from 5:25-5:40, and this is only four minutes of the storm. Most of the hail was small.

I made a couple of timelapses of the storm clouds. the wind was blowing a gust out of the southwest of 46mph. we had an tornado in stockton california yesterday 4/12/12 and a funnel cloud from this storm in roseville.

Wicked Thunderstorm in Henry county, Indiana 3-23-2012
I had just wanted to film some lightning strikes, and got quite a bit more than I had hoped for! This fast moving cell traveled from South to North across Henry county in Indiana. You can clearly see a wall or funnel cloud in the beginning during lightning strikes, and the video does absolutely no justice to the violence of the hail falling, and being driven by the wind.

Thunderstorm time-lapse video from Slovenia!
Storm chaser Marko Korosec recorded a time-lapse movie of explosive, deep convection on September 12th, 2011. Marko says this was a very rare event for so late in the season in Slovenia. Very rich boundary layer moisture and cold mid levels created a great environment for explosive convection in SW Slovenia; wind field/shear was very low, so pulsating multi-cell storms were occurring throughout the day! Large Thunderstorm Moves in over Disneyland
A Large Thunderstorm moved into the Disneyland Area today. The cracks of thunder were heard directly overhead of us on Main Street. The thunder and lightning was followed by a large downpour in the esplanade between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure park.

I had a rather wicked line of storms come out of the east (which is unusual) as it was getting dark. Ran out and closed up my shop and grabbed the camera and let it run to record the lighting flashes and thunder. The actual rain did not begin until shortly after I shot this. It was some rather intense rain with some small hail in it. For reference, the shop is 80 ft from where I was standing on the back porch of the house. It has a glass garage door and the lights were on, that is what you see lit up. Sometimes the lightning is so bright it illuminates the entire building. Video was shot looking east.

A severe thunderstorm pounded Hermiston between 9:00 and 9:15 PM on Monday, Apr. 23, 2012. At the Hermiston airport, winds reached 59 mph at 9:00 PM, 60 mph at 9:08 PM, and 56 mph at 9:17 PM. About 0.80 inches of rain fell in 25 minutes. This video was shot in northeast Hermiston. At 9:48 PM, the storm pounded Pasco, Washington with a wind gust of 62 mph.
