It's called a tigon, and you have to see it to believe it. This isn't some mythological creature -- it's the tigon a half tiger half lion hybrid. It was born just one day after Christmas at a wildlife park in eastern China. Don't confuse the tigon with a liger. A tigon is born from a male tiger and a lioness, while a liger is born from a male lion and a tigress. These hybrids are very rare. [Xu Tianci, Mgr. of Animal Care Dept., Yangcheng Wildlife Park]: "Tiger and lion belong to the same family but they are two different species. Their genetic make-up is different. This means that after they mate, the fertility rate is very low at only 1 to 2 percent. Secondly, the cubs' survival rate is even lower. A liger's survival rate may reach 1 out of 100000, but that of a tigon is 1 out of 500000. As of now, there are fewer than 10 tigons in the whole world." This tigon had a twin brother that died shortly after birth. Hybrids tend to suffer from a host of genetic disorders including neurological defects, cancer, arthritis, dwarfism, depression, birth defects, and immune deficiency. And while a lion or tiger may live up to 30 years in captivity, a tigon will only live about ten. China is one of the few places in the world that has successfully bred tigons.

Video shows several strange rare animals: A female lion with a mane, a possible female whitetail deer with antlers, a melanistic whitetail with one antler, piebald whitetails, and white lions. Also shows a tigon a cross between a lion and a tiger and two tame lions that the person who raised them can go into a cage with. All of these animals are very rare. **** White Lion The total number of white lions is unknown but the most recent count, in 2004, showed that only 30 were alive. White lions are Endangered. The one shown is one of Siegfried and Roys White Lions of Timbavati. Of only 30 white lions in the world, around seven are found in Ohio and this one is at the Cincinnati Zoo. **** Melanistic (dark) and piebald (light) deer are very rare. The mating of wild whitetails is almost never seen and filmed even more rarely. The video shows whitetail mating. Also shown is a totally unique mating between two antlered deer, it is unknown whether one of these whitetails is an antlered female, which is very rare. In addition, one of these deer is also partially melanistic, a much rarer occurrence than of a white deer. In one the doe had multiple partners. Although most piebald deer have more white, this one is a melanistic or dark one. The black is on its back and shoulders. A good view of its large black spot can be seen at the beginning of the video and its appearance can be compared to that of a normally colored deer.
