British vs French stereotypes - Yougov poll shows we're still chalk and cheese

Only 21 miles or so separate us Brits from those French, but our views of each other are still worlds apart, according to TheMeganeExperiment.com Yougov poll (Thursday 5th August 2010). That's despite France being the top holiday spot for British holidaymakers. Coming top of the poll, what really niggles us about the French is that they're not very friendly, consider themselves culturally superior and are "bad at war"! While the French think we're terrible at cooking, love and that we eat too much. And it doesn't stop there. A quarter of Brits think going on strike makes the French happy while they think we're most content watching the footy with mates and banging on about great British historic achievements.

40th anniversary of Hendrix death - "Hendrix Suite" dedication unveiled at his last known address

18th September marks 40 years since the death of guitar legend, Jimi Hendrix. To commemorate the anniversary London's The Cumberland hotel, Hendrix's last known address, has unveiled a Hendrix suite, designed to pay homage to the rock star's trademark psychedelic style (Friday September 2010). The opening commemorates the hotel's long association with Hendrix. He was a regular visitor to the property, just off Park Lane, during his frequent trips to London and held a fifth floor suite there during September 1970. His last known interview was with former NME journalist Keith Altham at the hotel, and Altham has since taken an active role in creating the suite to honour Hendrix.

MINI Scooter E - A first glimpse of the new two wheel concept

Almost ten years to the day since MINI launched its revamp of the 1960s classic small car, BMW has revealed a move away from the design that made the iconic British brand famous around the world, with the launch of an electric scooter design concept. While staying true to the features and aesthetics of the 1960s car, the design brief for the MINI E Scooter concept was to create a modern, 2-wheel vehicle suitable for built up, urban areas. The result is three individual scooter designs, all electrically powered and adapted to allow drivers to use a smart phone as the ignition key. The three scooter concepts were unveiled today (23rd September 2010) in London by model Agyness Deyn. The first is a two-seater, produced to mirror the style of the current MINI prototype hatchback, currently on trial on British roads. The second is the most authentic of the three and includes classic features such as British Racing Green paintwork, brown leather upholstery and silver mirror caps. The third design draws on the distinctive graphics of the 'mod' era in which the original car was launched. The white body-colour is adorned with stickers while a Union Jack is visible through the perforated leather seat.
