This was an informal question/answer with McMaster students done roughly a year and a half ago. It's about me who I am as a person and as a trans woman. Topic set by: LadyVixion Topic Created by: Montollie -Being Trans in the news or media, including celebrity 'fluff' pieces like Warren Beatty/Annette Bening's bio daughter transitioning, the " Araguz" case, and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt asking to be called "John" and wearing exclusively boys' clothes and hairstyles. Media is a really important aspect of the country we live in and ,I will go as far as to say, the World we inhabit. I think this occurs because our most rudimentary survival skill is the ability is to communicate. We are a species of community, and we largely identify (these days) with how we fit into the community (society). If you want to get esoteric you could say most peoples identity and or livelyhood revolves around how they fit into a community or society. Luckily we also have leaders. People that rise up and set the standard that ( most will only know this in retrospect) facilitates changes in what community means. Knowing this we have a wonder what would transpire if more trans folks burst the barrier into the limelight. We have already seen with trans people Candice Cayne - who acted in a main stream television show. etc.etc. Even if at first these ventures into the mainstream media are not ideal at first, they can be improved on and hopefully get to a level that illustrates fully that, yes we are trans, and yes we are people too! I forgot to say that people just seem to dislike people who are different mostly through fear of the unknown. I guess i should have got my thoughts together before i made a vid . oh well, this is just an immediate response . Just remember a person deserves to be who they want to be and people do not usually make this decision lightly. I would also like to point out that it often has nothing to do with sexuality.
