The Lapstick travel guitar is a short scale electric guitar that is compact enough to fit into the pocket of an overcoat. It has a scale length 3/4 of a normal electric guitar and can be tuned a minor third (G) to a fifth (B) higher than normal. In this video, we look at a Silvertone 3/4 Sized Guitar, a Martin Backpacker and even a Lanikai Baritone Ukulele. The Martin Backpacker is different than any travel guitar we've seen yet from Tim. While the others are all smaller scale guitars that would be convenient for traveling, the Backpacker is specifically made for space-saving transport.

New toy arrives in the Recording-Pit here at Disgracelands. A Lindo Travel guitar, bought from ebay for the tidy sum of £30 (about $40), so much cheaper than the Martin backpacker. This batch had minor issues with the paint finish, hence the low price, but apart from that it's a pretty decent little guitar. Playable straight out of the box, no buzzes, rattles or any other grief, it's holding tune well and has a sweet sound, like a hybrid resonator guitar/banjo. Nice resonance for such a small bodied device. Definitely a bargain. Now I guess I've gotta actually travel somewhere !

This Traveler Pro Series guitar is designed to be a hybrid travelling plank for both acoustic and electric players. It's strung with D'Addario Extra Light Phosphor Bronze Acoustic strings which adds to the challenge of playing a piece like this, but as you can see it's a very versatile piece of kit. I'm using the single coil pick-up (there's also a shadow-piezo in the bridge) in this video and you can hear a little string noise because the fretboard is very lively when you have gain and distortion wound in, but it's nothing I would consider show stopping. Here I'm playing a little arrangement that I'm working on (some might recognise it, some might not). I got this little guitar off eBay a couple of days ago, and received it in the mail yesterday. It is slightly damaged due to an improper installation of one of the pick-ups output jacks. It's not too bad, because I paid less for this than an actual new one, and it came with upgraded tuners and two pick-ups (I think). This was recorded with just my Kodak Zi8. The guitar is, I believe, a 3/4 scale, scaled-down folk body, with solid (!!!) sitka spruce top and laminated ovangkol back and sides (beautiful!).
