Taylor Guitars Responds to "United Breaks Guitars"

Bob Taylor lends his support to Dave Carroll and guitar players everywhere. Taylor has had an artist relationship with Dave for several years now. In 2006, our owners magazine, Wood&Steel, reviewed Daves CD, Sunday Morning. As weve had an ongoing relationship, we have made the offer to replace and/or further repair his damaged 710ce. As a Taylor artist, weve offered Dave our support, a choice of a new guitar and to re-repair the damaged 710ce. Dave and his bandmate Julian made the trip to the Taylor factory in July and have met many of our staff. Well also be running a story on Daves experiences in the fall issue of Wood&Steel.

Dean puts Guitars in Schools with Traveling Guitar Foundation

DEAN PUTS GUITARS IN SCHOOLS AS SPONSOR OF TRAVELING GUITAR FOUNDATION New York, NY -- Since being formed in 2009, the main focus of the Traveling Guitar Foundation (TGF) has been to shape the future of the music industry through children's education. The Traveling Guitar Foundation donates instruments to schools whose music programs are endangered due to budget cuts. The Traveling Guitar Foundation's name derives from the "Traveler" which is a Dean Vendetta 4F donated to the foundation by TGF'S main sponsor Dean Guitars and then placed in the hands of famous guitarists, who play and sign them. The guitars are auctioned off at the end of the year and the proceeds help the foundation fulfill its mission. TGF's mission is to provide assistance and support to instrumental music programs in our communities' schools; helping to ensure that elementary, high school and college students have access to music education and musical instrument instruction throughout their educational journey. Each time the TGF visits a school to make a donation, they put on a show to reinforce the benefits and joy of making music. In addition to young artists, who make a big impact on school children, TGF also brings along renowned music personalities to help deliver the message and the goods. Rare Traveling Wilburys Guitar w/Whammy bar & 1 centrally located Humbucker w/Phase switch Demo

Here's a Traveling Wilburys Guitar for you to check out. It's essentially a Danelectro that Gretsch put out in the early 90's primarily for the band to sell at shows along with T-shirts and programs and such. The tune I'm sort of playing throughout is Handle With Care by the Traveling Wilburys which I played along with a few times before shooting the vid to kind of learn it (to pay respects as it were to this incredible group). I point out features and flaws/shortcomings and at the end after I was really done (with the take...I usually do 2 takes and choose...more if I KNOW that they suck...) I kept on playing and that was good because the D string popped out of the nut slot (so you could witness one of the shortcomings of these in action). I still think that these are really cool guitars and the grounding issue and even the string popping out issue can be easily fixed. I said in the video that the nut needed to be filed a little deeper, but I really wouldn't do that first...locking machine heads or a string retainer (string tree for at least the G & D strings or a bar across all the strings...which pretty much every other Danelectro and Traveling Wilburys guitar I've seen has). There are no effects used here...I'm plugged straight into the amp and any sound or tone changes are either from playing dynamics or the volume and tone (and phase switch) controls on the guitar...or maybe from me blocking the speakers by standing in front of the camera (and the built in mic <b>...</b>

Lapstick travel guitar designer Phil Neal (English subs)

Lapstick travel guitar designer. We take a look inside Phil's workshop and hear the story about the origins of the ultimate travel guitar: the Lapstick. The Lapstick travel guitar is a short scale electric guitar that is compact enough to fit into the pocket of an overcoat. It has a scale length 3/4 of a normal electric guitar and can be tuned a minor third (G) to a fifth (B) higher than normal. It is equipped with a battery-powered preamp which allows the use of headphones for situations that require silent, private practice time. The initial idea came from problems Phil encountered as a working guitarist. Perhaps the following sounds familiar: You spend many hours traveling when you would rather be practicing and preparing for your performance. After sitting in a car, airplane, bus or train for hours, you arrive at the gig and often have to play at short notice, while your hands are not properly warmed up. On the way to the gig you have a great idea for a song but you decide not to play it because there is no opportunity to check all the chord changes. Phil listened to serious students and professional guitarists about solving these problems. The result is the Lapstick travel guitar. It can be played in practically any situation without disturbing the people around you. It can be amplified and recorded in several unique ways. The Lapstick travel guitar was designed for improving a players guitar technique, but I think you will agree that it is a fully fledged instrument <b>...</b>

We're back with more travel guitars suggested by Tim Joyce of Old Town School of Folk Music. In this video, we look at a Silvertone 3/4 Sized Guitar, a Martin Backpacker and even a Lanikai Baritone Ukulele. The Martin Backpacker is different than any travel guitar we've seen yet from Tim. While the others are all smaller scale guitars that would be convenient for traveling, the Backpacker is specifically made for space-saving transport.

In addition to a donation of guitars & amps and treating the entire fourth grade to an amazing show, they also performed "Rolling in the Deep" with the fifth grade PS22 Chorus! It was a raucous and fun version, and Azaria did a brilliant job filling in for absent Denise! Props to Marquis as well, always impressive on the drums. Voyage-Air Guitar Instruction 1-2009

Voted best of show winter NAMM 2009 www.voyageairguitar.com info@voyageairguitar.com The age-old problem of traveling with your guitar has caused many an industrious inventor to attempt a myriad of solutions. There are the miniature instruments, which ride comfortably on your back and can be stowed in small places (most critically, the overhead compartment of an airplane), but that dont offer the full-size experience once you reach your destination. Then there are the modular instruments, which come apart (and go back together) using various mechanical means, but that can look like something out of Dr. Frankensteins laboratory upon re-assembly. But Voyage-Air has done something unique. They subscribe to the full-size school, but take it to the next level by producing an instrument that, once expanded, belies its origins as a piece-together guitar in aesthetics, playability, and sound. In fact, the Voyage-Air guitar plays as well and sounds and looks as good or better than many fixed-built guitars in the same price range. And the technology is quick, delightfully easy to operate, and bullet-proof. Lets see how Voyage-Air got it right.

The Traveling Guitar part 1-Straelen, Germany 7/30/08.

Title- Straelner Wald Location- I'm in one of my favorite places. The town of Straelen where my wife, Kerstin grew up is about two kilometers behind me. Her family can trace her roots in the town back more than 300 years. We were married in the church there, built around 1200 AD. Straelen is on the Dutch border. The forest where I sit is pock marked with foxholes and bomb divots from WWII. Guitar- I am playing Kerstin's Yamaha from her childhood guitar playing days. I avoid taking expensive guitars into my outdoor practice spaces when I can. Sidebar- I had two ticks on me after this session.

Usually I would class albums like this under "Collaborations", but clearly the driving force was George, so much of the layout and musicians are continued from George's previous outings, and most of the recording was made at FPSHOT After "Cloud Nine" George joined an impromptu gathering of Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison to create this "self-titled" album full of humour and spontaneity. Recording started in April 1988 and continued through to the end of May. Unfortunately, aged just 52, Roy Orbison died on 6th December 1988 of a massive heart attack. Art direction is by David Costa for "Wherefore Art" (sic !) Sleeve photography is by Gered Mankowitz and Chris Smith. Band photography by Neal Preston. The inner sleeve (seen above) features a story full of puns about the Wilbury name, by Hugh Jampton (there's one) ... with other jokey bits following.
