The Tubes 1978 Documentary
The Tubes are featured in this documentary performing in NYC and rehearsing for their second European tour. It was cancelled after Fee Waybill broke his leg running off stage. The Tubes returned to Europe in the fall and headlined the Knebworth rock festival with Frank Zappa. This footage includes a performance of "Smash the System" aka Terrorist of Rock" which was rewritten for Remote Control as "Telecide." Other songs included are "Boy Crazy" "What Do You Want from Life?" "Slipped my Disco", "Smoke" and "White Punks on Dope." Singer/Dancer Re Styles is featured in the footage as well. The kid getting beat up is Tubes stuntman, Michael Springer. He was also beat up during "I Was Punk Before You Were a Punk" nightly as a fake crowd member. Kenny Ortega is seen as well recording a video with Michael Cotten and working out the dancer's routine for "Slipped my Disco." Bill Spooner gets laughs during his intro for the song, claiming the Bee Gees ripped them off. Classic Tubes! Audio is one channel only.

An early Tubes performance on KEMO TV San Francisco. Early Timeline for The Tubes *1969, Prairie Prince is accepted to the Art Institute in San Francisco. Moves with his band The Red, White and Blues band which includes guitarist Roger Steen and bassist David Killingsworth. Michael Cotten also is accepted to the Institute. *1970, Red, white and Blues Band changes name to "Arizon" and performs at The World's Fair in Osaka, Japan. *The Beans; Bill Spooner, Vince Welnick, Rick Anderson and Drummer Bob Macintosh move to San Francisco. Crash at the Red White and Blues band house, the "Noriega Hilton" after getting booted from their house. *David Killingsworth leaves RWB band, Roger, Prairie and roadie Fee Waybill join Beans onstage as "Radar Men from Uranus" during several gigs at the Art Institute. *1972-73 The two bands join forces with roadie Waybill as different characters, perform themed sets at Chatue Liberte'and Uncle Sams. Themed sets of music include a Country set as "Cowboy Fee", a Rock set as "Rod Plant" and Funk set as "Jesus Bongo"

I was taking a film class at the Art Institute. I brought my super-8 camera to this show at San Francisco's Bimbo's club that was in North Beach. I don't think it exists anymore. I don't hear much about The Tubes anymore but this show was great.. At one point, Fee Waybill noticed I was filming and told me to stop but then he changed his mind and let me film.
