Another one recorded in my "bedroom studio" last Spring. It's pretty self explanatory. Lyrics: I've heard that love is a pretty swell thing but I've never been there before. Story books and lovers' looks tell me the same but I've bolted up that door. Some days I feel like a scared little boy I just run and hide under my bed. Sometimes I think I can juggle the world but I drop everything on my head. Chorus: How long will this take, how long will this last? Am I sane enough to choose? Because everyone knows that a gambling man can win big or he can lose. My time is running out day after day I'm just building a fire in the snow. I stoke the flame as you call my name but I'm just a deaf man growing old. I'm 22 yeah I've made it this far but from here I don't know were to go. I got unanswered questions I can't figure out maybe California will know... Chorus - and Lord I was born a ramblin man so I'll ramble until I choose.

At around 1:00 this morning, January 9th, Ashley Cowie went home to be with God after a tragic accident near Florida State University. I had met Ashley only a couple of times, and knew only that she was a charming girl, but when I heard the news today, it was a huge weight on me all day long. I found myself crying intensely at the injustice and tragedy of the situation, and I spent the whole day writing this song. The world certainly has its ways to quiet us down... Story of a girl I barely knew The morning the world grew cold as the January dew Tears from my eyes, I can't tell you why Maybe it's just time I felt something again. A beautiful girl in a godforsaken world How the hell are we supposed to cope When everyone we know will go away, someday. Oh God embrace this pretty girl Take her away from all the pain that the rest of us must endure. And as you hold her in your arms I know that the night sky's not as dark With one more angel in the stars Story of a girl I hardly knew Reminding us all of the fragility of youth. Oook so this song is one of the "realest" songs I've written, in that it's actually about how I really feel haha... The verses are where the depth is, and once you piece it all together it's actually pretty depressing, despite the glossy chorus. But hey, real is real I guess. Here are the lyrics: Chorus: If I was your chapstick, your lips and I would never part, and I'd hang on everything you say. And if i was your make-up, I'd jump ship and show the world the pretty girl behind the glaze. Verse 1: But for all my wishful singing it's no more than six strings ringing and one feeble voice falling dead in the laughing dark. Because if from the hat my name was drawn to be the lucky one you lay eyes on this calloused heart would just harden and peel away, Leaving nothing but fresh skin and the intrinsic need to start again. It's a cruel and unexplainable game to play, but still I say [chorus] Verse 2: When projections of perfection animate my idle hours it's a shame, and I say "damn my wandering mind." Because I struggle with the segregation of my daydream fabrication and the girl before my eyes getting left behind.
