Elli Perkins - Foolish Scientologist Murdered by Unmedicated Schizophrenic Son
The Church of Scientology is notoriously antagonistic towards psychiatric medicine. This is bad news for many of its followers, who are often disturbed or mentally ill. In 2001, Jeremy Perkins, a 24 year old man from Buffalo, New York, was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. His Scientologist parents (Elli and Don) sent him to Sea Org in California for auditing, but he returned home a few months later still experiencing auditory hallucinations, paranoia and delusional thinking. After being found trespassing outside of the University of Buffalo on August 14, 2001, Jeremy was arrested and remanded to a local psychiatric hospital for treatment. However, Elli Perkins convinced a court to release Jeremy into her custody and, refusing to let him take his anti-psychotic medication, she treated him with vitamins instead. Jeremys condition worsened and, in 2002, he attempted suicide. He survived. However, he started to believe that his mother was trying to poison him and, feeling threatened, he stabbed her to death. Elli Perkins death has become a yardstick for everyone who sees Scientologys rejection of Psychiatry as sinister and dangerous. Indeed, Justice Anderson, of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia, recently stated: Scientology is the worlds largest organization of unqualified persons engaged in the practice of dangerous techniques which masquerade as mental therapy.

We wanted to add this video because it tells you more about the experiences of these parents as they not only received information about pregnancy, childbirth and newborn care they also had to work to act on that information. Not every mom had the expectation that she would be successful in achieving a natural birth. Every partner has hopes and fears too. What you learn in an Independent Childbirth member led birth class will challenge MUCH of the preconceived ideas and beliefs that are ingrained in our society as we moved away from improving midwifery care to going purely tech birth. We acknowledge that what we know will sometimes be received with skepticism. We continue on our goal to share what we know because we love to find the research that supports what we know as well as hearing mothers' experiences proving out truths that cannot be measured with research. For every mother who doesn't think she can go natural, but wants to try or at least think about natural birth .... for every partner who feels somewhat nervous about what mom wants versus what practitioners think is right and then being put on the spot to BE her advocate .... every parent wants to know they've thought their options through.

Layron Matthew was born a healthy 6lbs 6oz, 19 inches long on Saturday, July 9th at 6:01am. Unmedicated, unassisted (no doctors or midwives), in a pool in our dining room right into his Daddy's hands. What a wonderful experience! Real contractions started at around 2am, water broke at around 4am, and Layron arrived at 6:01am.

I enjoyed a peaceful water birth at my home in Huntington Beach, CA, where Lorri Walker from South Coast Midwifery delivered baby Eleuthera naturally and unmedicated. Casey and I are first-time parents and we took HypnoBabies self-hypnosis classes from Angelique Boynton to prepare for the birth. Additionally, throughout my entire pregnancy (just as I did prior to my pregnancy), I ate a high-protein vegan diet, walked 4.5+ miles daily, and weight-trained twice weekly under the guidance of my father-in-law, Gary Reinl, who in 1983 authored the first book ever on strength-training during the pregnancy year entitled "Making Mama Fit." This healthy lifestyle allowed me to enjoy pretty much everything that I did prior to my pregnancy with extremely minimal (if any) discomfort and gave me the physical and mental strength to give birth with ease. giving birth naturally SupermomWannabe.com no pain medication Baby born at 9 on Tuesday July 27th, 2010. 7 lbs. 13 oz. baby boy. 38 weeks pregnant (previous pregnancies were 3-5 days late so labor and delivery unexpected 2 weeks early) Prayers for our baby boy are welcome as he recovers from some health challenges (related to his kidneys). Baby was able to come home from hospital NICU 3 weeks after birth. I planned non medicated birth @ hospital w/ midwife because I'm VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarian section) so higher risks. Our newborn son needed medical intervention immediately after birth. This was an unmedicated "dry childbirth" (no amniotic fluid), and baby's abdomen was larger than his head! No epidural, no pain meds, all natural. So yes it hurt. So, yesterday we went to court to convert the TRO against Crazy-Unmedicated-Neighbor-Twit into a permanent restraining order. Her Daughter came to court, and told the judge that Crazy-Unmedicated-Neighbor-Twit was unable to attend, as she was actually in hospital having back-surgery. The daughter pushed the hearing out 6 weeks, as she would not be recovered enough to attend court on the second of August (the judge's first date). So... this morning my security camera records Crazy-Unmedicated-Neighbor-Twit walking out of her house carrying a large bag and a small bag, holding the door open on her SUV (parked on a slope) ... loading the small bag into the front, opening the rear door, loading the large bag into the back .... getting into the car, and driving away.... and she is obviously "spry". We will take this to court to show the judge, as evidence of her contempt of the law, and her inherent dishonesty.

Induction with epi vs natural childbirth
This is my experience with a medicated induction and epi vs an unmedicated natural childbirth. I don't want to scare anyone out of getting an epi, I just had a much better experience with a natural birth. Best wishes on whatever you decide. At the end of the labor you will have a beautiful baby :)
