Specs: Core 2 Duo @ 1.5GHz 65nm 2GB RAM @ 667MHz Intel GMA X3100, GM965 chipset (LOL) 5400RPM HDD Dell inspiron 1520 Windows 7 RC FAQ: Not fair comparison because they were installed totally different times? My laptop has a recovery partition meaning it can be restored to the original state it came in. I restored it to its original state in about January 2009, and then removed all the bloat ware and reinstalled my own programs (including all updates and SP1); I did this to solve a problem with my speakers. The Windows 7 in this video is the RC and was installed in May 2009 has more programs installed than in Vista, but has some of the same programs. So the install dates are not years apart. Vista probably had more to load and compute, and HDD space? Vista and Windows 7 have the same items & services to load at start-up, but Windows 7 has slightly more items (programs) to load at start-up/ boot than Vista does. Windows 7 has ESET Smart Security 4 whereas Vista has AVG 8 internet security, both fully licensed. During the time this video was made, the Windows 7 partition had 4.30GB free, and Vista had 7.17GB free. Which means Windows 7 has more data on its partition. (Both have an equal partition of 37GB each; I have an 80GB HDD) What is better & what would you choose? If I had to choose between Vista and Windows 7, I would definitely choose Windows 7. Well, Apple really meant when they said this will just be an improved Leopard for Intel Macs and they're right. They didn't even change the Intro Video. I had just installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard onto my Late 2006 17 Inch iMac with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3GB Ram. The Intro seems to be the same as The Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Intro. Tutorial on how to speed up the start up time of Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, and it may also work for older versions of Ubuntu. Biggest improvement is on removing Gwibber, which on my system knocked about 5 seconds off the bootup time. Other packages to remove include Braille Display, Printer Drivers, and Unneeded Fonts. My boot up time for Ubuntu 11.04 is 15 seconds (on par with 10.04 and faster than 10.10). The changes I show in this video knocked about 7 seconds off my boot up time. Command Lines: sudo apt-get purge brltty brltty-x11 foo2zjs gwibber gwibber-service hplip hplip-cups hplip-data hpijs min12xxw pxljr splix ttf-indic-fonts-core ttf-kacst-one ttf-khmeros-core ttf-lao ttf-punjabi-fonts ttf-unfonts-core Enable Multicore Booting: sudo gedit /etc/init.d/rc CONCURRENCY=none Change to CONCURRENCY=shell Disable unneeded services (Im no expert on this section, try Googling for more info) sudo apt-get install sysv-rc-conf sudo sysv-rc-conf These are all quick simple improvements to get your system running faster, if you want to go even quicker then its worth building up from a Minimal ISO and restricting the number of packages that get installed. For a Christmas gift I received a 500 GB internal Seagate hard drive. It also has a speed of 7200-rpm. My previous hard drive was a 250 GB hard drive at 5400-rpm. So I have a recording of me upgrading the drive with the video sped up. The program I used to clone the hard drive was SuperDuper, incase anyone was wondering. The enclosure I used to put the internal hard drive in was a Rosewill SATA to USB enclosure. If you are wondering why it took so long to boot up, its because after putting in a new hard drive the computer takes a while to boot off of it. The computer now boots up in less than 25 seconds, and the overall speed of the system has increased 50%.

Just strictly comparing the specs of both, it looks like the claim should be true, but everyone knows real-world tests are where it matters the most. Having an 11-inch version of both the 2010 and 2011 versions on hand, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do a comparison test and see if the claims were true or not. For this test I ran both through the same four tests: Boot time App opening speed Video importing speed Video exporting speed As I said in my unboxing video, working with video is where it was going to matter the most to me, so now it's time to see if I made a wise investment. Yes, it's Windows Vista Ultimate... and I installed it on a 250 MHz (!! NOT GHz, this is equivalent to 0.25 GHz !!) Cyrix MII based computer. Full specs: - Cyrix MII 250 MHz CPU (same sorts of speed as Pentium 1, but marginally faster per clock cycle... not that much) - Gigabyte GA-5SMM ATX motherboard from 1998 (it apparently has enough of ACPI 2.0 implemented to boot Vista. that's the tough thing about getting Vista to install on a machine of this vintage... it needs ACPI 2.0 compliant BIOS and at that time they were extremely rare.) - 512 MB PC100 SDRAM memory (Vista setup's minimum to run) - 16 GB Fujitsu IDE hard drive - Onboard SiS 5595 video (internally an AGP bus, there is no actual AGP upgrade slot though) You absolutely cannot run Vista on a true Pentium 1, even though I would have loved to for the video. It requires an 6x86 instruction set to boot or you'll get a blue screen when it hits an opcode the processor can't handle early in the boot phase. Original Pentiums have a 5x86 instruction set. This Cyrix MII is the next best thing, containing a 6x86 compatible instruction set while still running at speeds comparible to the later Pentium 1's... a bit faster, but not much at all. Note: I chopped out 1 minute and 19 seconds of where it was a pure black screen after the Vista scrolling bar boot part to fit it in Youtube's 10 minute time allotment. if you have this motherboard and want to update the BIOS to let you use large IDE drives, go here to download version <b>...</b>
