Casting Quickies: Smooth-cast 325 The original 2-piece mold is made with Mold Star 15. Begin by closing the mold. Smooth-Cast 325 Colormatch Resin 1:1 Mix Ratio, Low Viscosity, Fast-Curing, and Clear Amber Color Dispense equal parts 1A:1B by volume. Cast Magic Gold Rush effects powder can be added to create a unique look. Add Cast Magic Gold Rush to Part B. Mix Cast Magic into Part B thoroughly. Combine Part A with Part B and mix thoroughly. Slowly pour the mixed resin into the mold. Place plastic board over the pour spout. Carefully life mold. Keep mold halves pressed firmly together. Slowly roll resin inside the mold for 15 seconds. Purpose: Helps minimize surface bubbles in casting. Remove the plastic board. Allow Smooth-Cast 325 to cure. Casting is demolded after 20 minutes. Carefully trim pour spout. Shiny surface finishes sometimes cause the ball to go too long before breaking. If your Avalanche Urethane goes too long, dull the surface with progressively rougher abrasives to increase hooking action. The Avalanche Urethane is at its maximum length surface preparation. If your Avalanche Urethane hooks too early, you will need to use a less aggressive ball, such as Brunswick's T Zone Polyester to create more length. Reaction Setup The Avalanche Urethane can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for symmetric bowling balls. Lightweight Engineering At Brunswick, the unique core shape of each individual ball is used for weights from 12 to 16 pounds. This approach to lightweight ball engineering provides bowlers with consistent ball reaction characteristics across this weight range.

This is the process for making simple rubber block molds using urethane rubber. In this video we used 74-41 rubber but you could also use 74-20 for delicate patterns, or 74-45 for casting abrasive concrete. This kind of mold is ideal for casting plaster, soap, candle wax, as well as many other materials. Resin may be cast into a urethane mold, but proper release (2300) must be used to insure that the liquid resin does not bond to the urethane rubber mold.

This is a prop cast in a PT Flex 70 urethane mold. The cast is made by mixing PT Flex 50 with EZ Flo 60 50/50. The result is a semi-rigid cast. 2300 mold release was used to prevent the resin from bonding to the PT Flex urethane mold. PT Flex is a new series of quick setting urethane rubber products.
