Technology codes our minds, changes our OS. Apple products have done this extensively. The video shows how magazines are now useless and impossible to understand, for digital natives. It shows real life clip of a 1-year old, growing among touch screens and print. And how the latter becomes irrelevant. Medium is message. HFI Video: The Psychology of User Experience with Dr. Susan Weinschenk

The Psychology of User Experience with Dr. Susan Weinschenk Transcript: The Psychology of User Experience People come to the field of user experience from a lot of different backgrounds. Some people are visual designers, other are programmers, others have experience in interaction design. One of the backgrounds I think is really important is to have some knowledge about Psychology. I have a PhD in psychology so I am a little biased this way but it's so useful to understand people when you are designing an interface. If you know how people read and how people see, how people think, that can really give you a lot of insight and help you in your designs. If you don't have a strong background in the science of psychology applied to user design then I have some suggestions for you. One is to check out my latest book. It's called 100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People and it summarizes this information in psychology applied to interface to design. And then you might want to check out our courses here at Human Factors International. We have curriculum of courses, for instance the CUA curriculum and all of these courses are grounded in the science of psychology applied to interface design. So check this out. Understand how psychology applies and you're going to design even more powerful user interfaces.

HFI Video - The Future of User Experience Design (UX) with Dr. Eric Schaffer

Dr. Eric Schaffer, CEO of Human Factors International talks about the future of User Experience Design (UX) in a changing world. www.twitter.com Transcript: I think we all know that the world is going through a transition -- that there are critical ecological factors and critical geopolitical factors which are going to change the way that we live. Every organization needs to be modeling the future, modeling how people will live, how the ecosystem of their customers will change based on these factors. And what we're going to find is that pretty much every product and every service will have to change to adapt to the new world that we're going to live in. And I think that the user experience design field is going to be very busy doing exactly that because our job is to understand a customer's ecosystem and design products and services that fit with that. And as we can see and model the future we're going to be able to design new products that will help the world adapt to a more sustainable, more ecologically appropriate lifestyle, which at the same time will make people happy, perhaps even happier than they are today. So this is really the charge of our field going forward. And it's the fiduciary responsibility of every executive to have a trusted model of the future and to be able to build the new products and services based on that trusted model. The world is changing and those that can see the future and can adapt quickly and have first-mover advantage for that new world ...

Great discussion about the rumored Apple TV Set

svartling.net - **Will the rumored Apple TV Sets be great?** In this video I go through the great discussion we had today about a rumored Apple TV set I posted about on my Google+ blog. Here is the post plus.google.com My note was that I don't believe such TV will be available internationally. +Lars Fosdal & +Mike Dent thought the size of the TV sets that Apple would release is too small. And I'll agree, I would not buy a 32- or 37-inch TV today. The ideal size would be 42- or 48-inch. +David Bird says that he thinks that these Apple TV sets will just be a couple of nice looking TV's. Nothing else. I don't agree with that because when Apple release a new product they always lift it to higher standards with an incredible user experience. +Chris Carrier jumped in and said that Apple definitely can't call them iTV because of the UK TV station, and I said that I don't believe they will call it that. It's just a rumor. And then +Ramon Nuez commented that he is concerned about the price point. Wouldn't these Apple TV Sets be too expensive? I answered that I don't think so, because I gladly pay for the awesome user experience and eco system that Apple provides. I denna video går jag igenom den utmärkta diskussionen vi hade idag på min Google+ blogg om de beryktade Apple TV apparaterna.

Cadillac unveils new CUE infotainment system

Cadillac has unveiled its new in-car infotainment/connectivity system called CUE. CUE stands for Cadillac User Experience and features an 8-inch touch-screen with only four buttons to operate it, keeping things simple, according to Cadillac. Features of the technology include Bluetooth connectivity for many hand-held devices as well as natural voice recognition. New users can choose a simpler set-up for the CUE or a fully connected "super user" configuration. There's also a new technology called proximity sensing which displays buttons on the screen as it senses a hand approaching the touch-screen. CUE runs on a Linux operating system for greater stability. The CUE system will debut next year in the Cadillac XTS and will also be offered in the 2013 ATS sedan and the next SRX crossover.

Evolution of the Set-Top Box

In Verizon's Innovation labs in Waltham, Mass., we're busy working with partners to develop the future of TV. The teams there focus heavily on breaking down old tech barriers and on pushing the boundaries to deliver premier user experiences. They're also focused on increasing the energy efficiency of the devices that keep our customers connected—the devices that keep our customers entertained. Our recent announcement of an app on Microsoft's Xbox that lets FiOS TV customers watch 26 channels via the console certainly points to what's to come. In the meantime, we're making your TV watching experience a little greener. In 2011, more than 70 percent of the set-top boxes we installed were ENERGY STAR certified. These boxes use approximately 30% less energy in customer homes than previous models. Already, 100 percent of the set-top boxes we're ordering are also ENERGY STAR certified. Many of us can remember when TV and video only lived in the living room; when we all huddled around the family PC to watch a video on YouTube. Video is quickly going everywhere.

Oliver Hughes about Tinkoff Credit Systems

Tinkoff Credit Systems, or TCS, is Russia's only bank specialising in credit cards. TCS is unique in Russia: - because of our focus on consumer lending through credit cards - because we operate a virtual, purely branchless, model - because customer-service and user experience are paramount for us - because we employ a highly analytical, information based approach TCS Operations were launched in mid-2007. Since then we have been through a number of phases of rapid growth and our customer base will soon pass 2m, putting us in the top four credit card issuers in Russia by market share. When we originally launched the business we resembled the US's Capital One, the pioneer of credit card distribution via Direct Mail. Since then our model has evolved, and we are now also a leader in the Internet, including our online retail deposits programme which is an adaptation of the ING direct model. Tinkoff Credit Systems was founded by Oleg Tinkov, a renowned Russian entrepreneur. He was later joined by two financial investors, Goldman Sachs and Vostok Nafta. TCS attracted leading specialists from credit card and consumer lending businesses. And this management team of core professionals has remained in place since the beginning of the project taking the bank from strength-to-strength not just in the good times when we had rapid growth but also during times of economic downturn. Our branchless model gives us a very flexible approach to doing business, enabling us to respond quickly to ...
