The Secret Land (The Crash of George 1)


This excerpt from "The Secret Land" looks at the crash of the PBM Mariner "George 1" during Operation Highjump in Antarctica, on December 30, 1946. Three men were killed: Ensign Maxwell Lopez, ARM1 Wendell Henderson, and AMM1 Frederick Williams. Six other crew members were rescued after nearly two weeks stranded in the cold. Pearl Harbor Attack Footage (1941)


This footage of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was shot by CWO4 Clyde Daughtry. The original footage has since been lost, and the poor quality of this footage is due to the fact that it is a copy. Among the many valuable portions of this footage are shots of USS Nevada (BB-36) underway and firing back at Japanese aircraft, USS Oglala (CM-4) rolling over and sinking, and USS St. Louis underway (CL-4). US Merchant Marine Radio Officer Don Berger


Don Berger joined the Merchant Marines in World War II when he was 16 1/2 years old and served as a radio officer. His final war was Gulf War I when he served as a radio officer on the Navy Hospital Ship USNS COMFORT in the 1991. Today, Don is a volunteer aboard the SS American Victory in Tampa, FL. SS American Victory is one of the last four operational WW II Victory ships and a highly recommended tour for naval history buffs. Don epitomizes the Greatest Generation.

Pentagon 9/11 Memorial Service (October 2001)
