The city of Valparaiso or Paradise Valley, is around a hundred and twenty kilometres from the capital of Santiago De Chile on the Pacific coast. The most important harbour city in South America has a long history and today boasts a modern, ever-expanding container harbour. Valparaiso's strategic location brought it much power and prosperity. A narrow stretch of land along the bay became the city centre and today the Monumento De Los Heroes De Iquique is a reminder of the heroes of a sea battle during the Saltpetre War. Lovingly known as Ascensores, since the middle of the nineteenth century escalators have rattled up and down the steep hills of the harbour city. The descending cabin pulls the ascending cabin by way of a steel cable that is drawn over a large wheel situated at the upper station. Hundreds of colourful buildings extend over the hills and from above the bay it is like a vast amphitheatre that contains a busy harbour. Indeed, in 2003 UNESCO designated Valparaiso as a World Heritage Site and it is undoubtedly Chile's pride and joy!

The rider must brave jumps, stray dogs, and flights of stairs along the steep downhill path. After much too many delays, the 2012 edition on Valparaiso Cerro abajo urban downhill race took place this past hot Sunday afternoon in front of over 15 thousands fans. It was Chilean Mauricio Acuña that took first place, beating two years in a row winner, Filip Polc by just under a second. Filip took second place, Cedric Grracia took third and Brazilian Luana Oliveira was the only woman on the track. VCA 2012 also celebrated it's tenth year running and there is a three year deal worked out with the city of Valparaiso. 50 riders took part in this years race that included 25 international riders.

We went site seeing in two beautiful cities; Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar. They are along the coast and are an hour in a half from Santiago. We were able to go to the beach, view old ports from the 1900′s, houses from the 17 or 1800′s, current ports and have lunch on the beach at a great restaurant. We also saw some incredible sand art.

Parece una nube en forma de platillo, con una esfera en la parte delantera, la aparición y desaparición no dura las de 2 minutos. Creía era el reflejo del sol en alguna nube, pero siempre desaparece a los breves instantes y las demás nubes permanecen, Al ir desapareciendo quedo por ultimo una esfera en la parte delantera, que en breve desapareció también. Yo no conosco mucho la historia politica de Chile. Lo poco que sé es del General Pinochet, un presidente dictador. Además que, uno aprende muy poco quando la informaccion viene de la tele o del periodico. Uno nunca sabe qual es la verdad hasta hacer parte de ella. Pero fué con mi primer ida a Chile que tuve contacto con el pueblo chileno, y con su testimonio vivo tuve la declaracion desta historia todavia viva en el país. Quando llegamos en Valpariaso de auto desde Santiago, ya en la primer vulta havian jovens protestando contra los altos costos de estudiar en una universidad particular, como la Católica de Valparaiso. Con sus trapos con mensages a las autoridads responsables por el tema me parecio muy desorganizado e ineficiente. Por vez cantavan en unisono una canccion de protesto, que poco se escutia dentre medio de tantos autos que passaban nel rush del medio dia. Por lo que me dijeron, este problema ya viene de muchos años y acredito que siga lo mismo hoy en dia: sin resoluccion satisfatoria. Enfim, con este contexto enpieso donde quiero llegar. Si el ser humano por natureleza és contraditorio, quando se es joven sera mucho más. A lo sumo, estos propestantes tienen la esperanza de cambiar las situaccion para todos y ser uno de los primeros beneficiarios de estos cambios. Pero, ponele que no sea desta forma y se quedan sin beneficio por sus esfuerzos.
