MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS ~♫~ (LOVE IS LIKE A) HEATWAVE

MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS - (LOVE IS LIKE A) HEATWAVE. Whenever I'm with him Something inside Starts burning And I'm filled with desire, Could it be the devil in me? Or is this the way love's supposed to be? (Chorus) It's like a heat wave It's burning in my heart I can't keep from burning It's tearing me apart Whenever he calls my name So softly and plain Right then, right there, I feel that burning flame Has high blood pressure got a hold of me? Is this the way loves supposed to be? (Chorus) Sax Solo................. Sometimes I stare into space Tears all over my face, I can't explain it, don't understand it, I ain't never felt like this before Now this funny feeling has me amazed Don't know what to do, my head's in a haze, It's like a heat wave. Yeah yeah Yeah yeah Ha ohhh yeah Yeah yeah Yeah yeah ohhh yeah I feel it, burning, right here in my heart, Don't you know its like a heat wave Yeah yeah Yeah yeah ohhh Don't you know it's like a heat wave? Burning right here in my heart.

Their follow-up to "Come and Get These Memories", "Heat Wave" was an even bigger hit for Martha & The Vandellas. The song went to #4 on the Pop and #1,R&B for 1963. It was nominated for a Grammy, but did lost to Ray Charles. This song is considered by some to be the beginning of the Motown Sound with it's driving rhythm and its Gospel-Pop style singing and harmonies.NOTE: The Funk Brothers that played on this track were: Joe Hunter- Keyboards; Richard "Pistol" Allen- Drums; Mike Terry- Baritone sax; Dave Hamilton-Vibraphone; James Jamerson-Bass; (Any omissions will be updated accordingly.)

Another gem found on "The Complete Motown Singles, Vol. 7: 1967" A great compilation of Detroit's finnest R&B/Soul music by the label Motown. "The sophistication of the arrangements, the voices, the rhythms, the big, open sound, the lyrics that anyone can understand and get behind-- this is why Motown, a black company in a blindingly white world, originally crashed the pop charts, and all of this is what kept them there even as everything else changed. Partly thanks to Motown, by 1967, anything could hit the pop charts, and just about any kind of thing you could imagine did, by artists of all races." - Pitchfork

Hattie Littles And The Vandellas - Nowhere To Run

For this re-recording of the Martha and The Vandellas classic, we teamed up bluesy ballsy voiced Hattie, with the two original Vandellas, Rosalind Ashford Holmes, and Annette Beard, two of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. Martha herself was booked to record this track, in early 1990, but she and I had one of our famous falling outs, so Hattie and The Vandellas did it together instead. I miss Hattie Littles terribly. She had a most tragic life, and I was so grateful for a chance to record her, ever since, as a youth discovering Motown for the first time, Dave Godin's raving about her made me so especially interested in her. But Dave Godin told me he'd heard that she'd died many years before we started Motorcity, so when the late great Dave Hamilton, one of Motown's guitar players, with the Funk Brothers, told me that this was totally untrue, and Hattie was still singing gospel in Detroit, I couldn't wait to record her, and she literally cried with joy at being given the chance to sing again. We released two entire albums, "The Right Direction", and "Borderline", and then a greatest hits compilation entitled "The Best Of Hattie Littles". I recorded a total of twenty one tracks on her, and even brought her to England to stay with me at my house, to record her second album for us. She had had such a rough life, supposedly murdering her husband in the 1960s for being abusive, and spending many years in jail, curtailing her recording career throughout the sixties and the ...

Martha & The Vandellas - My Baby Loves Me (Original Stereo)

"My Baby Loves Me" was written by Mickey Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter and although the record credits Martha & The Vandellas as the artists singing, the truth is quite another story. For whatever reason there may have been at the time, Motown's producers decided to use session singers The Andantes to back up Martha Reeves lead vocal on this recording, and the male voices you hear are actually the Four Tops! "My Baby Loves Me" peaked at #22 during the winter of 1966.

MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS - NOWHERE TO RUN - BABY BOLLOX & FANNY CRADDOCK 99 CO-PRODUCTION. It has been reported that a major hurricane and earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Fanny's place in the early hours of this morning with its epicentre in the Crutch Hill area. Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly, muttering "Faaackinell". The hurricane decimated the area causing approximately £30 worth of damage. Several priceless collections of mementos from Majorca and the Costa Del Sol were damaged beyond repair. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Many locals were woken well before their giros arrived. Chav FM reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered and were still trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting had happened! One resident - a 15-year-old mother of 3 said, "It was such a shock, my little Chardonnay-Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest two, Tyler-Morgan and Crystal-Storm slept through it all. I was still shaking while I was skinning up and watching Jeremy Kyle the next morning." Apparently looting, muggings and car crime were unaffected and carried on as normal. The British Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4000 crates of Lambrini to the area to help the stricken locals. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, including benefit books, Elizabeth Duke jewellery and Bone China from Poundland ...

Martha Reeves And The Vandellas - Heat Wave

My relationship with Martha blew hot and cold. One day she was bringing a bucket full of fruit flavoured wine coolers to refresh everybody in the studio, which was truly lovely, then the next day she wouldn't even speak to me. In 1990 I signed a contract with her and paid a large advance to finally complete an album with her, an album that still hasn't been recorded to this day. But I can't help but adore her, even though she treated me terribly. It's hard to stay mad with one of your heroes, and I grew up with her music, and still adore her in every way. We all cried in the studio, in March 1989, when she did the vocal on the first song we ever recorded with her, "Step Into My Shoes", her first recording for ten years, at that time. Then we did "Angel In Disguise"straight afterwards. Then in July 1989, Martha and The Vandellas sang "Step Into My Shoes" on the Kelly And Company TV Show in Detroit. Then we cut three more songs in the studio, "Number One", and then the duet with GC Cameron on "You're All I Need To Get By", and finally this wonderful reworking of her mega classic, "Heat Wave", the record that Martin Luther King adopted in 1963 as the theme to his legendary civil-rights movement "I Have A Dream" tour of America, a message and sentiment which has only finally come true now in 2009, a full forty six years later, as the USA embraced its first African-American President.
