500 yard target session with the AR15 Bushmaster Varminter; also a brief appearance by a surprise gun! This was a great day in the Tennessee wilderness, setup by friend and fellow YouTuber ArtisanTony, and his son Barret. Truly a remote piece of property for this large private shooting range, so much that my Jeep faced its most demanding test ever. Some of the segments offer picture-in-picture perspective. Everything is recorded in HD 1080p. I'm using .223 Remington, 55 gr FMJ for the session. The Bushmaster Varminter has a 24" barrel and 1:9 twist. Scope is a Leupold 4.5 x 14 x 50, and it was maxed out for this distance. Steel targets, typically 1 inch thick, were stationary and are a permanent part of the range setup. We confirmed the 500 yard distance with a Leupold RX-III laser rangefinder. The sight-in and subsequent shooting segments had to account for winds 5 to 15 mph, gusts to 20 mph. We had to use our cameras and binoculars to confirm hits/misses in some cases. The very heavy steel we were shooting absorbs the "report" more than my AR500 targets, plus the distance and wind also had an effect. A spotting scope will be essential for future visits. Prior to the Varminter sessions I took my longest shots ever with the Bushmaster A4 20" barrel configuration, open sights. Made some hits, but we did not get anything on camera. However, I will be posting a 500 yd shooting video with my Bushmaster/Rock River carbine and the EoTech 516; no magnification. Thanks again to <b>...</b>

I mounted my Sony Handycam to the A2 stock of an AR-15 Bushmaster Varminter, providing you with a POV or first-person experience. Shooting steel at 175 yards with Georgia Arms 55gr FMJ. Good view of the right side of the rifle, scope, bipod, ejecting brass, etc. I was laying prone on my "shooting platform". You might be able to see the target downrange near the middle of the screen, but can definitely hear the hits. The perspective for this short video was to show more of the rifle.

Trying out my Savage Model 25. Chambered in .223 remington with a 1 in 9 twist 24" medium contour, fluted satin blue barrel. The bolt is three lug and has a 60 degree throw to allow mounting of a large diameter scope low on the receiver. It comes equipped with Weaver style scope bases.

Browning's X-Bolt has proven to be an outstanding rifle. With excellent feel and accuracy, it's one of my personal favorites. This guy here takes it a step further and gives it a distinctive looking stock that feels as good as it looks. The X-bolts I've fired have all been shockingly accurate, and this one should be even more so. This one is in .22-250 and we also have one in .223.
I really enjoyed having my oldest son along with us on the 500 yard shoot with tnoutdoors9. This video is just for him. He admittedly is more musically talented than with firearms but he still does a great job and I enjoy every minute of it. The music is his version of Inspector Gadget.

Review and shooting test of the .223 ZOMBIE MAX ammo from Hornady. Video includes 100-200 yard shooting, plus some ballistic gel. This format is more light-hearted than my other ammo tests, given the marketing aspect of this ammo. Test rifle is the AR15 Bushmaster Varminter, 24" barrel. Scope is a Leupold 4.5-14x50. Shooting steel at a laser-measured 703 yards with the .223 AR15 Bushmaster Varminter. Some wind, rain, and fading light to deal with, but I was determined to get this done. The elements only made it more challenging....and rewarding! Scope is a Leupold Mark III 14 x 50mm, and it was stretched out on this setup. Focus was outstanding, and target aspect was still good. I could probably squeeze another 100-150 yards with this scope on the same size target and maintain reasonable accuracy.

Evaluation of the Hornady TAP 75 grain load for .223 Remington. Includes shooting groups on steel at a laser-measured 100 and 200 yards (showing scope perspective at 200), and water jug test at 100 yards. Platform is the AR15 Bushmaster Varminter with 24" barrel. Chronographed velocity from this rifle was 2780 fps, slightly lower than Hornady's published velocity (2790 fps and test barrel length not revealed)....but impressive for this bullet weight/caliber combination. Although it really isn't marketed as such, this load would probably perform well on coyotes and other large varmints. This is definitely one of my favorite "heavier" loads for .223 Remington.

400 yards target shooting with the AR15 Bushmaster Varminter, .223. In spite of breezy conditions and a slight elevation change, some success in making hits on an 8" x 16" steel target. During the video, you can actually see the bullet flight to the target. In retrospect, I would probably adjust my scope 1 click up and to the right for this setup and weather conditions. That adjustment should bring the majority of the group into where my crosshairs were aligned, as my misses went low and left. Nonetheless, the 75 grain Privi Partizan .223 cartridge is definitely worthy for long-range target shooting, and possibly varmint hunting due to it's open-tip design. For better viewing results, you may want to reset the video after a few seconds to allow the media additional time to load.

Fourth of July fireworks on the target range, compliments of the AR15, tannerite, and some colorful accessories. Shooting the Bushmaster Varminter .223 Remington at 100 yds using Hornady 55 gr VMAX, approximately 3300 fps muzzle velocity. This was filmed on an ample tract of private property; I was the only person on the property during filming. Tannerite is a binary explosive (two powders) and is legal to purchase and use by consumers in most states. Please check your local jurisdictions for legality. The tannerite used in this video was mixed on site minutes prior to beginning the video. Once mixed, there are very strict regulations regarding the transport of tannerite. Shooting the military 5.56 mm 64 grain tracer, M856 from Federal. Targets were water jugs at 200 and 300 yards. Slow-motion segments included for both distances; no audio. I used the scoped Bushmaster Varminter as I wanted to keep the shots within a very well-defined target zone as opposed to spraying shots all over the place. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TAKEN: Nearly 4 inches of rain past several days; ground was saturated. Cleared area within the immediate area of the targets down to the dirt. Prior to the session, poured water in and around a much larger area, approx. 1000 square feet. The greatest majority of jugs were hit during the shooting session. All flare-ups and/or richochets from the session extenguished themselves immediately due to the favorable ground conditions. Within minutes of the last shot, I saturated the immediate target area again, and remained on-site for an additional hour. Over 30 jugs of water were used for the test and additional ground saturation.

I am using the Sony Nightshot setting, which replicates true nightvision but ONLY with available ambient light. Watching bullets break the sound barrier, times three; at distances of 200 and 300 yards. The greatest majority of shooting shown here was at 300 yards. Camera was positioned behind and slightly above the shooting setup, and zoomed at various degrees for each segment. Beginning at 1:38, the final three segments are at normal speed....I just kicked it up a few notches on the trigger! Also, I plan to try this again at 500 yards or longer.....in an open field. Viewable in 1920 x 1080 HD if you have the bandwidth. By choosing the 720HD or 1080HD view settings, you can best see the bullet trails.
