Ah, Earthworm Jim 2. No other game can rival the absurdity of this little morsel. No, not even Katamari Damacy. Don't give me that look. This is level four, "The Villi People" aka "Jim's Now a Blind Cave Salamander." In this level, Jim (an earthworm mutated by a space-suit) must disguise himself as Blind Sally, the blind cave salamander, in order to navigate--swim, swim--through the lower bowels of a planet-sized... thing... whose intestines are, for some reason or none at all, home to strange, exploding intestinal sheep and pinball bumpers. And a game show. And all for the rescue of his love, Princess What's-Her-Name (no, really). Yes, it's THAT kind of game. The music here is the actual in-game background music. It's Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," or at least the first movement of it. Anatomical tidbit: "villi" are the fibrous, hairlike things that help absorb food in your intestines! Kind of like the fuzzy stuff in your lungs, but for hamburgers and diet soda. Yum!

Jim's Now a Blind Cave Salamander. Chasing Psy-Crow through the intestinal planet, Doctor Duodenum's old summer home, Jim disguises himself as Blind Sally. There's tons of different questions in the game show bit. The length of a string is the same shape as something beige, Jim spells his name Mij and his red gun is green. He can not tie himself into a knot, his mother does not approve of the girls he dates and when it comes down to twisting arms with Psy-Crow, he has no arms. Jim's suit is full of delicious and healthy oat bran and one size fits all.

Uploaded this is a testimony to the pure randomness of this game. One of those scenes from video games that I always remember from when I was a kid; mostly because of how weird it is! For whatever reason Jim has now become a blind cave salamander and must traverse his way through what can be best described as a sphincter with poisonous protrusions (a bit like Pete Doherty). The levels not too hard you just have to get used to the new controls and stay clear of the walls; also best to stay clear of the pinball thingies as they can sometime bounce you into the walls. The quiz at the end has completely nonsensical answers, I used to have them all written down when I was a kid but I forgot them now which is why I suck at that scene :) The bouncing game at the end is optional if you want to skip it at anytime just hit the wrong pattern, but you will get some nice goodies if you can get all the way through. As you can see I just screwed up near the end lol

This is our dear Puccini that seemed like Verdi. Of course the Maestro always carried a strong Verdi influence, but in this early work, it is a very remarkable influence. (See Verdi's Requiem Dies Irae.) Yet, considering earlier 'Capriccio sinfonico', I believe Puccini tried to ressemble Verdi by his own will, so the juri of the competition to which he originally wrote the opera would classify him as Verdi.
