Rick Kamla talks with Vlade Divac his journey from Yugoslavia to Los Angeles and the film "Once Brothers." Divac is the narrator and one of the stars of "Once Brothers," a fascinating film detailing the story of he and Drazen Petrovic, his former teammate on the Yugoslavian national team, their friendship and rise to NBA stardom that was destroyed by a 1991 civil war in their homeland. Once Brothers - Vlade Divac in Lakers - Story about Yugoslavian basketball team - ESPN 30 for 30

"Drazen Petrovic and Vlade Divac were two friends who grew up together sharing the common bond of basketball. Together, they lifted the Yugoslavian National team to unimaginable heights. After conquering Europe, they both went to America where they became the first two foreign players to attain NBA stardom. But with the fall of the Soviet Union on Christmas Day 1991, Yugoslavia split up. A war broke out between Petrovic's Croatia and Divac's Serbia. Long buried ethnic tensions surfaced. And these two men, once brothers, were now on opposite sides of a deadly civil war. As Petrovic and Divac continued to face each other on the basketball courts of the NBA, no words passed between the two. Then, on the fateful night of June 7, 1993, Drazen Petrovic was killed in an auto accident. "Once Brothers" will tell the gripping tale of these two men, how circumstances beyond their control tore apart their friendship, and whether Divac has ever come to terms with the death of a friend before they had a chance to reconcile." - source espn.com Movie from espn.com More about John Wall, Wizards and NBA Top Plays at www.johnwall.co (not .com) player website.

'Once Brothers' ESPN series 30 for 30 - Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic

Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic were two of the greatest European basketball players of all time. Vlade retired recently, and Drazen, sadly, died back in 1993 in an automobile accident. Had he lived, he would probably be a household name by now, just like Divac is. After the war broke out in former Yugoslavia, however, these two teammates stopped talking -- Vlade is a Serb, while Drazen was a Croat, and the nationalistic rhetorics in both countries must have influenced them, just like many other friends and colleagues at the time, even family members. Even though Divac managed to set things straight with former teammates, Croatians Toni Kukoc and Dino Radja, he was too late to make peace with Drazen.

---------------------------------- Once Brothers (Serbo-Croatian: Jednom braća) is a 2010 documentary co-produced by ESPN and NBA Entertainment for ESPN's 30 for 30 series. My Official Blog: clsee93-youtube.blogspot.com Characters Vlade (Black Yellow) - A demon/vampire who transforms into a baby dragon like his unrelated sister, Vannie. His growth is strangely much slower than the usual demon, which made Vannie tease him and boss him around even though their the same age. He might be worthless at times but with his good looks and charming-gentleman attitude, he is easily adored by all. Vannie (Black Purple) - Vlade's bossy, unrelated sister. She likes to wear revealing outfits and gets them by stealing from other girls. She is the same age as Vlade and even though she cares a great deal for him, her temper gets the best of her and she'll end up shouting and teasing him, which makes people misunderstand her actions. Hayley (White Red) - A violinist student who 'adopted' dragon form Vlade as her pet. She has fallen for Vlade in love at first sight and is obsessed with him. She's perky and stubborn and will do anything to get what she wants, including Vlade. Fay (Black Blue) - An angel. He is a good friend of Vlade and Vannie's. He is also the same age as them but is not as tough as Vannie. He is very sensitive and adorable but can be serious when he sense danger.
