This video is of "Big Iron" Douglas Skyraiders as they appeared at various airfields in Southern California. Big, bad and ugly, these rugged and LOUD warbirds were also affectionally known during the Vietnam war as "Sandys" or "Spads." Although designed as a Naval aircraft, they were utilized by both the US Navy and the US Air Force during Vietnam. The mighty Wright R-3350, 18-cylinder, twin-row radial powers this beast. This thing burns more oil per hour than your automobile burns gasoline. Not exactly environmentally friendly, as you can see at the startup. If you could do real-time mapping of the earth's ozone holes, there would be a Skyraider right at the center of each one, ha!

This aircraft is the first civilian-operated Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker in the world. Its first post-restoration flight, seen here, took place on 10 December 2009, in Rockford, Illinois, USA. It is registered N131SU. The outside air temperature for this flight was 7 degrees Farenheit, or minus 14 Celsius. The wind was 250/15. The takeoff roll on Runway 25 was approximately 1100 feet, and the pilots used a climbout angle of approximately 25-30 degrees to avoid accelerating through their FAA-waivered speed limit in Class D airspace. Flight duration was approximately 45 minutes. This aircraft and its sister ship have both been sold since this video was made. No further information is available about the sale at this time. Jeff and I have been having combat with these Old Classic Warbirds (that used to be manufactured by Cox Models) since last winter. Having just posted my Cox GAS Ukie video, I wanted to show you the Classic Electric RC Warbirds now being offered by Gravity Hobby for only $17.99, including motor, 2 props charging jack, plug, and switch. Just add a micro Rx and 2 micro servos, LiPo, and fly. I like the Corsair the best. They can really fly fast with the stock motor. I have a Stormlauncher Motor in the ME-109 and stock in the P-47. In my newest Corsair, I am installing the SL motor too, as it is quite fast. The Corsair has a very stable flight due to it's wing folds, plus keeps the nose off the ground when landing. My favorite. Note~ In January 1996, a leading model toy rocket manufacturer, Estes Industries, purchased Cox Hobbies, Incorporated, and relocated operations from Southern California to the Estes facility in Penrose, Colorado. This signaled a major change in marketing direction for the new company, now known as Cox Models. Spaatz Field Reading, Pennsylvania Saturday June 4, 2011 Before the opening ceremonies and before the airshow portion of World War II Weekend takes place, well over a dozen and a half sorties are flown by a wide variety of aircraft - most notably a PT-17 Stearman, a PT-23 Cornell, a B-25 Mitchell, B-17 Flying Fortress, P-51D Mustang, SBD Dauntless, SB2C Helldiver, and even a B-29 Superfortress all fly multiple sorties for one single purpose - taking paying customers for a flight in the aircraft of their choice. Here is a very nice video shot by Jurgen Heilig (Copyright) of the Legendary Fighters RC Warbird team at the Rheidt Euroflugtag 2009 in Germany. One of the Mustangs called "Shangrila" flown by Mickey Sabatschus flew right through one of the fireballs. He said the heat blew-out the down-line of one of his pneumatically operated main landing gear and he had to do a partial gear landing. The end of the video shows some really nice scale weathering on the wings. Building the Airfield 1470mm B-25 Bomber Warbird by Jeff Part One nitroplanes

This is a foam Messerschmitt BF-109 by FMS (Airfield) of China. It features a 1.4 meter wingspan, a very torquey brushless outrunner motor spinning a 14x8 Master Airscrew prop (custom), worm drive retractable undercarriage (very cool) and nice scale detail. It's powered by a Turnigy 3000mha 4s 30c LiPo battery (custom) which enables about a 13 minute flight time and more than ample power. Takeoff weight is approximately 1.8kg. This is only the 3rd or 4th flight for the plane and it's proving to be a lot of fun. Next step is to enable the flaps for some slower landing speeds and a little more involvement. If you have been thinking about one of these FMS warbirds then I can highly recommend the BF-109! Hope you enjoy the video.
