Amazing waterspout 'tornado' caught on camera off Australia

Dramatic footage filmed from a helicopter by Australia's Channel 7 shows a series of powerful waterspouts near the coastal suburb of Terrigal, on Australia's New South Wales coast. Several powerful columns of swirling air could be seen blasting along the water's surface near the coastline. Channel 7 claimed the spouts reached heights of up to 600 metres (nearly two thousand feet), but dissipated as they neared land. The natural wonders came as strong winds and heavy rain also lashed other parts of the state, causing flash flooding and traffic chaos in Sydney. Watersprouts 'Tornado' Australia caught on Camera, raw footage

Australia's Channel Seven captured multiple, powerful waterspouts from a helicopter about 55 miles northeast of Sydney. They claim the spouts reached heights of nearly 2000 feet, but dissipated as they neared land. Huge waterspout caught on cam A spectacular waterspout appears off the east coast of Australia, creating a twisting pillar of water hundreds of metres high. A waterspout appeared off the central coast of Australia's New South Wales on Monday causing a huge sprouting fountain in the middle of the ocean. Waterspouts are formed when a high layer of cold air blows across a body of water, either the ocean, a lake or a river and clashes with the warm air below. Inside the spout, winds can reach speeds of up to 62.1 miles an hour. They have also been known to pick up various sea-life and dump it on land. A heavy storm across the coast, north of Sydney resulted in three additional waterspouts, according to local residents. Like land tornadoes, waterspouts often appear in groups. Four massive waterspouts -- tornadoes formed over water -- were captured on film off Australian's coast on Monday. According to CBS News, the rare phenomena were spotted off the New South Wales coast as extreme weather hammered down on other parts of the region. The aerial videos seen below were filmed from a helicopter by Australia's Channel 7, which claimed that they reached heights of nearly 2000 feet. waterspout Australia watersprout water tornado Australia twister column air coast ...

Dire Strait: US & Iran trigger happy?

The threats are being ramped up over a vital oil shipping route which Iran's threatening to block. The country says it's ready to confront any military ships crossing the security perimeter of its large-scale war games being held in neutral waters near the Hormuz Strait. Iran has already spotted a US aircraft and other battleships in the region. Earlier, the Islamic republic threatened to stop oil shipments through the channel, if new Western-backed sanctions hit its fuel exports. America's vowing to use its navy, stationed in the Persian Gulf, to stop the Iranians from hindering passage. Fake Withdrawal? 'US won't leave Iraq oil to Iran'

Despite the US's declared withdrawal of its military personnel and contractors out of Iraq, Washington has prepared to control the country's rich oil reserves in any case, shared Ranjit Singh Kalha, former India's ambassador to Iraq in the 1990s. Having spent $3 trillion in Iraq, a country with harsh weather conditions (+50 C most of the time) and absolutely nothing valuable but oil reserves, the Americans simply cannot give up the plentiful and very high quality oil they went there for. "It takes $1.50 to take out this oil that's just below the surface. Anybody who has access to this oil can be a game changer -- as far as the politics of oil is concerned," Ranjit Singh Kalha concluded. The problem Americans encountered in Iraq is that once given "some symbols" of democracy, the Iraqi voted for a Shia-led government. The headache is that the Shia traditionally have close links with Iran, the core territory of this affiliation. "That is the present dilemma. If you withdraw from Iraq completely, you leave this vast oil wealth of Iraq in the hands of Shia (Iran-oriented) government. And therefore it upsets the political balance in the Middle East," Ranjit Singh Kalha explained. He said that to counter such adverse developments the US will have almost 20000-strong embassy in Baghdad (the largest US embassy in the world) and consulates in Basra, Kerkuk and in northern Kurd-inhabited territory, each consulate 1000-strong. "Americans cannot afford to be completely absent from ...

Syria Doomed? 'Invasion planned long ago'

Arab League observers are due to arrive in Syria on Thursday as part of a plan to halt violence. That is after one of the bloodiest weeks since the beginning of the unrest, with more than 200 people having been killed in the last few days. The US has renewed its call for President Assad to step down, warning of new international measures unless it withdraws security forces from the streets. Syria is already suffering under a set of sanctions. Sibel Edmonds, founder of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition, says sanctions will only provoke violence in Syria, causing deeper restlessness in the conflict-ridden country. Kids of New Libya: New values for 'green' minds

Libya's record high 90 per cent literacy rate, one of the undeniable achievements of the ousted Colonel Gaddafi, is now being challenged by the controversial education policies of the new leaders. Revolution fever has subsided, but not all Libyan kids are coming back to school. Some parents are unhappy with the values their children will be taught. A new day in the new Libya traditionally starts with an old ritual. Students assemble before classes to see a new flag being hoisted and to sing a new national anthem. Like the revolutionary tricolor, the anthem is a flashback to the pre-Gaddafi era, with a few verses tweaked to represent the notion of the country's recent liberation. For decades under Gaddafi's rule, Libyan students had to memorize long passages from his Green Book without ever questioning them, and it seems like this tradition may continue under the new Libyan authorities as well. Children are too young to understand the meaning and the bloody history of this revolutionary anthem, but they are already expected to know it by heart.
