At 15 he founded a punk rock band, The Ripchords, whose sole release, an eponymous EP with four tracks, was championed by John Peel and quickly sold out. He moved to London to attend King's College, where he got involved in putting on bands at the Student's Union, and DJ-ing at the gigs. After leaving university, he began working as a DJ in 1985 with his "Mongolian Hip Hop Show" on pirate radio station Network 21 in London - the handle Mixmaster Morris was suggested by the station director. After a year of managing a club called "The Gift" in New Cross, Morris began releasing material as Irresistible Force in 1987, initially in collaboration with singer-songwriter Des de Moor. He became involved with the emerging UK acid house scene, after organizing Madhouse at The Fridge, Brixton in 1988 - which was the subject of a piece by John Peel in The Observer A show with the band Psychic TV led to him becoming full-time DJ with The Shamen, and touring with them on their celebrated 'Synergy' Tours for nearly two years. This is a visualization of "Kirlian Photograph" by Cabaret Voltaire, released in their 1979 album "Mix-Up" Kirlian photography is a photographic technique which involves high-voltage charged objects over photographic film. The film registers the corona around the objects, giving it a weird ghostly appearance. The technique is claimed to register the "aura" of objects and living tissue, but the workings of this photographic method are well understood enough to dismiss those claims. Either way, the pictures are pretty cool looking, and I tried to capture their looks in this visualization. This is basically the song's waveform wrapped around a logarithmic spiral. The center of the spiral is the past waveforms. Each frame leaves an afterimage that decays in a 33 color palette. This worked pretty well to simulate the "feel" of the corona effects you see in the Kirlian photos, especially given the song's heavy use of white noise, which shows as random, chaotic peaks. The song itself won't please everyone, but I like it a lot. Been wanting to post it here for a while now.

However, I've skirted the 'entertainment' factor a little by attempting to methodically go through all of its waveforms and show you briefly what they can do. My personal favourites are the standard old sine wave (first one), the square waveforms (start at 4 and the random sample/hold (goes great with some dirt in front of it). I'll upload another video shortly showing how an expression pedal can be employed as it opens up a whole range of other possibilities. If you get through this entire video you've done well.
