The French baritone, Victor Maurel (1848.6.17 ~ 1923. 10.22) sings a short aria from Verdi's 'Falstaff' for Fonotipia in 1907. (Misprinted on label as 1904) Maurel created the title role of the opera at La Scala in 1893. The aria itself doesn't last more than 40 seconds, but after some applause, Maurel sings the aria again twice. The third one is sung in French, while the first two was sung in original Italian. What I have in my collection is the Columbia's IRCC release from 1932. It was pressed on a superior quality shellac with White Columbia Magic Note label. It was one of the first IRCC records released for the public. IRCC and Columbia collaborated until about late 1933, but after that, IRCC only released their material with Victor. Played on my Numark turntable at 76rpm. The sound is remarkably clear for its time.
