In this case, Eddie Cantor's pretty song is abused to hold the US Jews collectively responsible for WWII ... These extremely rare records were made exclusively for shortwave broadcasting to Great Britain, USA and other adversary countries. Whether the lyrics may sound ridiculous or still offending for today's listeners, the Charlie records belong to the musically most accomplished swing recordings in the Third Reich. Vocalist was Karl Schwedler, the band personnel consisted of musicians of the Lutz Templin Dance Orchestra. However for various reasons, they were substituted quite frequently by others. Jesse Belvin - Makin' Whoopee (Original Stereo)
"Makin' Whoopee" is a notable song on several levels not the least of which it being one of the first popular tunes written dealing with marriage and sex. The song was composed with music by Walter Donaldson and lyrics by Gus Kahn for the 1928 musical "Whoopee!" starring Eddie Cantor. Since that time, the song has become a standard recorded by many. RCA Victor was grooming Jesse "Mr. Easy" Belvin as a crossover artist, and they had Jesse work on an album of standards with Marty Paich and his Orchestra in late 1959 from which this recording of "Makin' Whoopee" was part. However, before the album was issued, and shortly after finishing a performance in Little Rock on a bill with Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, and Marv Johnson, Belvin and his wife and manager, Jo Anne, were killed in a head-on collision at Hope, Arkansas. The concert was the first concert played before an integrated audience in the history of Little Rock, and had been stopped twice by interruptions from whites in the audience, shouting racial epithets and urging the white teenagers in attendance to leave at once. There had been several death threats on Belvin prior to the concert, and there was speculation that Belvin's car had been tampered with prior to the accident, though nothing was ever proved. Jesse Belvin was only 27.
