I purchased this Wii November 19. After more then 24 hours of use the disc drive stopped working. Here is a video of what happens. UPDATE: I hope this video did not give anyone a bad impression of Nintendo or Wii. This seems to be a small defect that not many people have and hopefully everything will be fixed. Thanks for understanding. ^_^ UPDATE: Called Nintendo November 28. Nintendo said they will send a replacement for the system within 4 days. Recorded the call for records. Nintendo told me that this launch has been good. Not many reports of defective Wii systems. They also said that I was the first to report a system that creates that noise and the first to have one reported that has scratched the Wii disc. Thanks for the support and I hope this news helps rest you assure that Nintendo Wii's defects like this is rare. UPDATE: New Wii system arrives November 30. ^_^

Nintendo will be bringing out its successor tot he Wii, to be previewed at E3. Nintendo of Japan posted a brief release today on the company's Japanese web site announcing the coming of their next console. The successor to the Wii will be launched in 2012. The release itself is exceptionally sparse on details, indicating only that the console will be shown off at E3 this year, in playable form. Nintendo's not confirmed, hinted towards or provided fuel for any of the current Project Cafe rumors circulating. Instead, they've left interpretation and estimation wide open until their official announcement at this year's E3. Here's the bulk of the release To whom it may concern: Re: Wii's successor system Nintendo Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011. Quick note: Yes, this is the ORIGINAL Sensor Bar candle video. After this was posted, many others followed suit, including Joystiq.com. IGN.com even made several references to it in their articles an blogs, and someone referenced it in Wikipedia. Many have heard that the Wii's Sensor Bar does not really sense anything at all but that the remote does all the detection sort of like a monochrome digital camera. What many do not realize is that the Sensor Bar is just two sets of IR LEDs that emit just enough light to be detected by the remote for triangulation. Knowing this, I decided to do an experiment. I turned out all the lights in my living room and lit two candles about three feet apart beneath my projector screen, seeing as they emit several wavelengths of light, both visible and beyond. Surprisingly it worked atleast as well as Sensor Bar when directly in front of the screen (but worse far to the left or right) because of the combination of increased IR light output and increased distance. Any two IR sources will potentially work in this manner (including two TV/DVD remotes with any buttons held). The video was recorded on a Cingular 8125 set to "cool" (bluescale) to capture enough light. I wish I could've used a higher-quality capture method, but the low light made it difficult. At the beginning of the video, I hold up the pack-in sensor bar to show that it is not plugged into the Wii (since it's tough to tell in the very low light of the room). So, my brother (Chadderz) being the genius that he is has managed to figure out solidity on a basic level. So, I returned back to my old SNES Rainbow Road model hack and completely changed it, reconstructing the models and texturing, checkpoints, item routes, AI routes, etc. And Chadderz added in solidity, not 100% perfect but it's very good indeed. The result is what you see here; the old alpha model hack cannot compete with this. This is our best work to date. I wondered what the best way to demonstrate this new course would be, so I organised an event: An invitation for any hackers capable of using the SZS Modifier or running texture/model hacked courses to participate in a recorded GP around SNES Rainbow Road. The result was a grand total of 8 players across 6 Wiis, which is fantastic ;) I will only upload the first part of the GP (first 2 races) because sadly after that one quite a few people were disconnected. Hi. Sorry for some of the moments in the film were the camera either did not focus right (only manual focus is allowed in the camera for recording) or some of the flawed moments in the film or the random moments in the film. Basically, my wii cannot read any disc you put inside. I am not sure whether it is because the discs are majorly scratched or that the wii's hardware disc reading hardware has gone bad. I tried out the following games (all NTSC versions, almost equally scratched out, all failed to be read.): -Mario Kart Double Dash!!! (Nintendo Gamecube, majorly scratched, nearly beyond repair) -Wii Sports (Nintendo Wii, majorly scratched) -Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo Wii, majorly scratched, nearly equal to Wii Sports disc) -Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo Wii, some scratches, dual-layered disc) In the beginning of the video, I show the wii being start up so you can see how this problem is right when the wii starts up. Next, I go to the wii channel and before I inserted the discs, I show you guys how each disc is in condition so you can truly see how scratched up they are. Also, I show you guys the discs being put in so you can see that I am not just using a different disc to trick you guys. I was using some kitchen tongs with a handkerchief to insert the disc because I did not want my full arm to be exposed to the camera and it was a safer option for me compared to using my hand to insert the disc with. That's right... as long as you have an SD card, you can now play custom tracks, NO modding, nothing else, it doesn't matter what version/region your Wii is or anything. Here's how it all works: Introducing, Riivolution. This is neither mine nor Chadderz's work. Riivolution was coded by AerialX, and is an on-the-fly file replacement system for Wii. It reads both the game disc and SD card at the same time, and tricks the Wii into thinking that it should be loading from the SD card sometimes, not the game disc. Which means you can insert custom material on the SD card and the Wii will load it right up. The purpose of Riivolution is to enable the easier creation of game mods. And frankly, it's fulfilling its purpose wonderfully here. So, if you want to get the custom tracks, come here and have a read: www.mariokartwii.com and you can download them all from there.
