An astonishing blunder by a Qatari player cost his country a place in the Asian Games quarter-finals. Khalfan Fahad came up with one of the worst misses ever in the 1-0 defeat against Uzbekistan at the Games in China. The 18-year-old's gaffe came in the first minute of extra time, with the game still goalless. Uzbek goalkeeper Timur Juraev let the ball through his legs, presenting Fahad with an open goal, but he hit the post after inexplicably shooting with the outside of his left foot. The luckless Fahad's expression after the miss said it all. And things went from bad to worse, as Ivan Nagaev hit the winner for Uzbekistan. Fahad's team-nate Mohamed Sala Eineel said: "It's a bad moment for him. He's a young player and he's got to forget this one."

Eight goals were scored in this match - Harrow Borough beat Waltham Abbey 5-3 - but the only topic of conversation in the bar was the astounding miss by non-league legend, Rocky Baptiste. Thanks to Rocky for being a good sport in allowing me to post footage most people would have wanted to bury in the garden. I include an example of Rocky in more typical mode: scoring a goal. (Some folks seem to be under the impression that the miss and the goal come from the same match. I would like to clarify that the miss is from the Waltham Abbey match on 28/11/2009, and came just as second-half injury time began, with Boro' already leading 5-3; the goal was scored in a 5-1 win in the FA Trophy 1Q replay against Soham Town Rangers on 20/10/2009, and was the first of Rocky's brace that night. I included the goal as an example of Rocky's capabilities, because although the miss is funny, I thought it only fair to show why he is so respected in football. September 26th, 2011 It is a measure of how much football is available to watch from all around the globe that when Fernando Torres produced his gaping goal miss at Old Trafford, at 101gg HQ we scoffed at the thought that El Nino had produced the "worst miss ever." In just over 8 days since that crazy moment, we have highlighted misses from Roberto Soldado, Nicklas Hult, Kempes and Sebastian "El Loco" Abreu, which are all awful and can be legitimately compared with Torres' FAIL. But now we think we may have located the "worst miss ever" and it puts all those above to shame, it is a true shocker and will propel Ivan, who plies his trade for Lugo in the Spanish third division, to worldwide infamy. Lugo went top of the league on Sunday with a fine 3-1 win at Alacala (highlights here -- the game involved a couple of fine goals) but the major incident of the Segunda B encounter came late on with the game already decided. It does not need a whole lot of explanation, so in the interests of fairness, here is Ivan's post-match excuse: "The pitch was not great... I am sure if it was 0-0 I would not have missed..."

In Saturday's MLS match against the Los Angeles Galaxy, Kamara found himself right in front of an open net with the ball mere inches from the goal. He was a little too eager to tap it in, though, and ended up falling on his rear end as he stretched to kick the ball in for the easy goal before knocking it in with his hand. He was quickly called for a handball and the game went on to end 0-0. After the match, Galaxy defender Gregg Berhalter still couldn't believe it "It was one of the most unbelievable things I've seen in soccer. "It was unfortunate for Kamara, but it was a handball and credit the linesman for seeing it." Video of the miss has already spread far and wide. The Sun is calling it "a contender for miss of the century," but there are quite a few in the mix for that crown. Back in January, we featured another open net shocker from a bit farther out. Then there was the now famous Rocky Baptiste's from December, but I think this miss from Dinamo Zagreb's Ilija Sivonjic last October might be even worse than Kamara's...
