WWF: Change the way you think about your laptop

Do you know what goes into making your laptop? Raw materials for electronic goods are mined from tropical rainforests, but as resources dry up, recycling aluminum is key. If a laptop manufacturer only used recycled aluminum, it would take 90% less energy to make the same machine. Imagine what our world would like if more products recycled or reused existing materials.

Jared Diamond: Thoughts on Managing Change

In early 2011, ClimatePrep.org had a chance to sit down with Jared Diamond to talk about climate change, the challenges presented to conservation and development practitioners, and the opportunities he sees in confronting them. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jared Diamond is a world-renowned expert on ancient societies. His now famous book, Collapse, is a study of the choices societies have made throughout history in the face of change -- climate change, as well as others -- and the consequences of such choices. WWF US PSA - On Thin Ice

WWF is pleased to present our 2007 Public Service Advertising campaign, "On Thin Ice", developed in partnership with New Line Cinema and Scholastic. This PSA is a departure from past WWF campaigns where we used only majestic nature footage. We are trying a new approach, combining animated characters with our captivating nature images to describe the plight of the polar bear. Polar bears can not protect themselves. They need our help if they are to survive. WWF is actively involved in creating ways to reduce the effects of global warming for polar bears and people alike.

WWF: Change the way you think about food

How do we balance the needs of a growing population with a finite planet? By the year 2050, our planet will be home to another 2 billion people. How will we feed them all? Not only will there be more people, but everyone will have more money to spend on food. Where, on an increasingly crowded planet, will we grow all of it? Picture what would happen if we could freeze the footprint of food by doubling the productivity of farming.

WWF Change the way you think

We live on a finite planet and sometimes our impact on it is greater than we realize. The seemingly isolated actions we take every day—from our choice of morning beverage to our choice of business practices—are often links in a chain of unusual connections we would never have imagined. The bottom line: The health of business is directly connected to the health of the natural world. And both can grow and flourish—together.

Tigers Among US

Did you know that there are more tigers in American backyards than there are in the wild around the world? The United States has one of the largest populations of captive tigers in the world − estimated at perhaps 5000 tigers, compared to as few as 3200 in the wild. They are found in backyards, urban apartments, sideshows, truck stops and private breeding facilities.

Long-distance swimming puts polar bears at risk of drowning due to fatigue or rough seas. Cubs are at even greater risk because their smaller body size and limited body fat leaves them more prone to hypothermia, and they don't have the energy reserves of an adult bear.
