Just a quick test of the alleged "X-ray vision" capability of the original NightShot feature of Sony camcorders made prior to August 12, 1998. I used a stock, unmodified Sony CCD-TR940 Hi8 XR analog camcorder without any special filter on the lens. After August 1998, Sony modified their NightShot feature to purposely reduce its effectiveness and render it useless during daytime lighting, due to complaints that it was able to see through light colored clothing!

In July 2010 it had come to my attention that a Chinese crooked gambling distributor was offering X-ray vision contact lenses through their site. Their video showed a demo of how these revolutionary contact lenses worked. Card cheats would no longer have to use marked cards. With these contacts in their eyes they could look right through the cards and see the printed image on the faces. To make a long story short, I figured out how their contact lenses worked and made my own video... and my own contact lenses. Full explanation is in my blog post (see link above).

Download latest version: bit.ly Version 2 supports the latest Minecraft Beta textures! So I extracted the terrain.png from the minecraft.jar file and deleted all but the 1 pixel border from the basic land blocks leaving a transparency. Interesting effect, I can now see the monsters and tunnels underground! Obviously the game does not render any tiles that are not exposed to open air or that you had previously exposed and then covered back up with a transparent tile, so I could not unfortunately see through to all the mineral deposits unless they were exposed already at one of the faces. Still an interesting effect though, and makes finding caves and avoiding monsters a real cheese.
