Another update, March 13 2009. This video is still getting views and comments, still can't believe it. This video was all for fun. Once again thats me on the left side and Israel Diaz on the right. This was learned by ear by me on piano first, then I taught it to myself on marimba/xylophone. I then taught it to Israel, where we both learned to play it together. I'm a snare drummer by the way, not a keyboard percussionist!

New Learn Pilates App! mhlo.co www.mahalo.com If you're looking to take up a musical instrument and need an easy one to start with, you might want to consider learning how to play the xylophone. Some music teachers consider the xylophone an "easy start" for beginners, because playing it doesn't necessarily require the detailed technique other instruments require. The xylophone produces a ready tone for beginners and masters alike, allowing budding musicians to learn quickly and get more immediate results for their efforts. The xylophone is a musical instrument with a long history - the first instrument of its type originated in Africa. The xylophone is part of the percussion family - you play it by hitting wooden bars of varying lengths with a mallet that's made of rubber or wood. To play the xylophone, you'll first need to familiarize yourself with the instrument. Different xylophones may have different note ranges, for instance - some as small as 2.5 octaves or as large as four. Take note of the xylophone's bars: the longer the bar, the lower the pitch it produces. Most xylophones are set up like a piano, with lower notes played on the left and bars for flat and sharp notes located in sets of two and three just above the main bars. Go ahead and strike some keys to see what sounds they produce. You might want to experiment with different mallets, as well, as tones will vary depending on the type you use. Harder mallets will likely produce brighter, sharper sounds - soft ...

SALE TODAY: Learn Piano on iOS bit.ly Learn from Mahalo xylophone expert Jay Laura how to play "Happy Birthday" on the xylophone. Step 1: Learn The Melody --------------------------------------------------------------------- The song " Happy Birthday" is played in 3/4 time and in key of Cc To begin playing, work on the first two lines of the song until the transitions between the notes become smooth and up to tempo. You may want to practice singing the song along with the notes that you play to keep your playing in rhythm. The first two lines of the song are very much alike, with just a small change of the notes on the words "to you". G G A G C B Happy birthday to you G G A G D C Happy birthday to you c Step 2: Practice The Chorus --------------------------------------------------------------------- According to Jay Laura, the second part of the song is a little bit harder in that it skips an octave. The first two notes, for the word "happy" play on the G an octave below the G where you started in the first section of the song. Then you will skip an octave up to a G to begin the the word "birthday". The * indicates the octave change. G G *G D C B A Happy birthday dear --- ----- F F E C D C Happy birthday to you! c Step 3: Add It all Together --------------------------------------------------------------------- All of the notes of the song are played with the right hand until the very end note. The Cave is a song that was originally recorded by 'Mumford & Sons' and was included on their 2009 album 'Sign No More'. It reached number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song is a collaboration I recorded with maybabytumbler. I was introduced to her channel last summer when I was organizing a mass collaboration of the song Wavin' Flag. The video received several positive comments about maybabytumbler's singing, and many people requested that they wanted to hear more of her singing. Since it was such a pleasure working with her, I asked if she would be interested in collaborating with me in another video. The most difficult part of this collaboration was choosing the song. Several song suggestions were sent back and forth before maybabytumbler suggested this one. I hadn't heard this song before, but after listening to it a few times I agreed that it would be a great song for a collab! I transposed the song up one semi-tone from the original key it was recorded in. The instrument at the beginning that I used is called a Kalimba, I received mine for Christmas from my Aunt and Uncle. Check out maybabytumbler's channel if you haven't already. www.youtube.com Please leave comments and SUBSCRIBE! Thanks for watching! Wow this is going back. I just found this video on an old disc. In 2000, 17 yr old me performed at a recital as part of the VCA Season of Excellence - basically a showcase of students that did Music Performance in their final year of high school. This is the first movement of Toshiro Mayuzumi's Concertino for Xylophone and Orchestra. Probably even harder than the xylophone part is the piano accompaniament, here played by Tamara Smolyar. Excuse the dodgy camera work. Filmed by an excited family member.

Do it yourself. Tune old Orff-Schulwerk rosewood xylophone bars, If your unisons sound like minor seconds, the children and audience are not going to be having a very pleasant or aesthetic experience performing on them. We tune our piano regularly, why not the xylophones? General music teachers with moderate shop skills can learn to tune old worn out instruments themselves!

Perhaps not as fast and dynamic as the performance at the Iwacki Auditorium, but probably more precise. Plus this one is helped by being filmed professionaly, with decent sound. This is from the VCE Season of Excellence, filmed at the Melbourne Concert Hall (now Hamer Hall) in 2000.
