I finally received all my parts from Yankee Hill Machine company and had them installed on my rifle. All together I have the YHM diamond series free float quadrail (specter length), YHM low profile gas block, extra Magpul XTM rail covers, and a Magpul MBUS back up front sight. My favorite flash suppressor for tactical carbines in the Yankee HIll Phantom 5C2 model (YHM-28-5C2, Brownells 100-002-071). It doesn't add any weight over a A2 birdcage FP, it's strong, has scalloped edges for CQB possibilities (love 'em), it doesn't spear brush when hiking, it's cost effective (unlike many others!), and it looks wicked. The 5C2 Model has no slots on the bottom which helps minimize dust kick up when shooting near the ground. Note that it will add a little extra length over an A2 "Birdcage" suppressor. YHM also makes models for .308 chambered guns, AKs, and variations without the aggressive end scallops. But even with its close quarter capabilities the 5C2 would be nothing if it didn't actually suppress the flash. As shown in this night time desert 30 round string, it does just that and does it well. I have used them for years and they have never disappointed. AR57 (Updated) & YHM Suppressor Review: This review is primarily to show the difference between shooting that AR57 suppressed vs. unsuppressed. I also cover the mods I have made since the first video which include: 12" SBR, EOTech XPS2-2, Streamlight TLR-1, Timney drop-in 4# trigger, 3-point sling, QD sling mounts, Troy Industries Battle Axe butt stock. Overall impressions: While it obviously adds some weight to the rifle, I found the suppressor to make the gun hearing safe - to the point of sounding similar to a .22lr. The low recoil of the 5.7x28 rounds enables you to maintain your sight picture while operating at a high rate of fire... It's easy to keep the dot on your target. With 50 rounds per magazine, extremely low recoil, highly effective ammunition, fast & accurate follow-up shots and now the ability to shoot at hearing-safe levels... this is definitely my favorite SHTF weapon! Second time shooting The KRISS Vector SDP Pistol version in .45acp. with a 5.5" threaded barrel, this time with a silencer/suppressor. I must say it's very quiet, on the money and it takes the new 30 round Glock 21 magazines. The KRISS System absorbs and redirects these forces downward and away from the operator thus enabling them to better control and keep the KRISS on-target. More control equals more rounds on-target, more of the time. Think I'm going to like this even more now with the silencer, LaserMax green laser, Mepro 21 scope by Meprolight and The G2X PRO dual-output LED Flashlight by Surefire. Taking it back out tomorrow for testing, I'll keep you posted on this one.

DPMS A15 and YHM Phantom Suppressor Review: This was the first AR platform rifle that I had ever purchased, and I have made several modifications to it that I talk about in the video review. The dual optic setup may be of particular interest to many, but the primary focus of the video is to show the difference in shooting suppressed vs. unsuppressed using the YHM Phantom 5.56 suppressor. I found shooting this rifle suppressed to be hearing safe although I would not call it comfortable. There was a definite shift in POI as compared to shooting it without the can. I repeated the test with different ammunition and got an even greater shift in the point of impact. A compilation of the of videos of me shooting 3 different suppressors on a variety of platforms. The 3 cans I got to use and 1 of them being my own are the YHM SS Mite, the YHM 5.56 SS Phantom and the YHM 7.62 SS Phantom with QD mount. The ammo used for this demo were .223 Wolf, Federal Champion High Velocity .22LR and Fiocchi .22LR Sub Sonic. I must say that these are the only brand suppressors I have held and heard but I was quite impressed with them. They are a little on the heavy side from what I have been reading in the reviews but are built like a tank. Durability is my main concern since they these are life long purchases. The YHM SS Mite on the other hand was very light and easy to handle on the P22. For anyone thinking of purchasing one and are on a budget you can't go wrong with any of these. Comparison video shooting my M1a Socom 16 with and without a Suppressor. The suppressor is a YHM 7.62 Titanium Phantom. There is a lot of blowback so I suggest getting an adjustable gas plug like the one Schuster makes. I'll be ordering one after this. It's hard making a comparison video in 1 video because the suppressor gets hot. So I cut up some previous range sessions and put them together.

This video shows me installing a Yankee Hill free float tube. It was an easy go but I highly recommend buying the block for the front sight base. Taking off the FSB was the hardest part of the whole process. Instructions below Apparently there are some guys out there who must know everything about building guns, however, they are confused. From the instruction sheet: Screw the barrel nut onto the upper receiver until it is tight by hand. Using our forearm wrench (YHM-9621) tighten the barrel nut until the next gas tube hole lines up with the upper receivers gas tube hole(using a rubber mallet). Take special care in aligning the gas tube hole in the receiver to the gas tube hole in the barrel nut. See diagram to the right. yhm.net As you see, there is nothing included about torquing down to 30 pounds.
